Board of Assessors
Monday May 16, 2011

Open the Meeting:  The meeting was called to order at 4:23pm.


Accept the Minutes:  A motion was made by Allan and seconded by Russell to accept the minutes of April 11, 2011.  The motion passed unanimously.


OLD BUSINESS:
  • None

NEW BUSINESS:

The Board voted and approved the following Motor Vehicle Abatements:
  • 2011 Abatements in the amount of $7,418.47
  • 2010 Abatements in the amount of $39.17
The Board voted and approved the following Motor Vehicle Excise Notice of Refusal:
  • 1 Notice of Refusal for calendar year 2011
The Board discussed the assessment of sheds and hot tubs.  The board stated that our office does not assess metal or rubber sheds.  We only assess wooden frame sheds if they are more than 10 X 10 in size.  We will continue to assess hot tubs.

The Board discussed property on Brimfield Rd and Aldrich Rd.  The Board stated that disputes between neighbors regarding land boundary lines will only be addressed when the residents have a survey and deed information to substantiate their statements.

The Board discussed the reorganization of the board due to the elections in April.  Allan nominated Russell as chairman of the board and Michael seconded the nomination.  Russell abstained from the voting.  The voting was unanimous to have Russell Bressette Jr. continue as Chairman of the Board.

The Board was updated on Tower View LLC and their tax status.  Russell requested that we get in touch with the head of the environmental department to receive an update on where things stand with the clean up of the site.  He also asked that we get in touch with Ed Harrison to get an update from him.  Russell noted that the building has recently gone up for sale.

The Board was informed of a scholarship offered by the MAAO for education.  The principal assessor will be applying for the scholarship to help defray the cost of the summer school.

The Board was updated on the mapping project.  The Board was informed that this year we will be having road annotation done on the maps.  The Board requested that next year we add in all abandoned and discontinued roads on the maps.  Allan offered his assistance with that part of the project.

The Board was updated on miscellaneous items.

The next meeting was scheduled for Monday June 20, 2011 at 4:15pm

ADJOURN:  At 5:24pm, a motion was made by Allan and seconded by Michael to adjourn.  The motion passed unanimously.
